British Superbike Championship chaser Sylvain Guintoli suffered a broken leg at Donington Park after colliding with Joshua Brookes on the ride up to the grid.
The pair collided at the Melbourne hairpin as Brookes went up the inside of the Suzuki rider into the right-hander, collecting the Frenchman as he then turned in to take the corner.
While Brookes was unharmed, Guintoli was clipped by his bike as he went down and was removed from the circuit on the stretcher.
BSB rookie Guintoli was chasing Leon Camier in the overall standings, having switched classes after two years in MotoGP.
